Mason Hayes's love life has a long history of losers who don't see that Mason's heart is as deep and tender as his mouth is awkward. He wants kindness, he wants love - and he wants someone who thinks sex is as fantastic as he does. When Terry Jefferson first asks him out, Mason thinks it's a fluke Mason is too old, too boring, and too blurty to interest someone as young and hot as his friend's soccer teammate.

The truth is much more painful Mason and Terry are perfectly compatible, and they totally get each other. But Terry is still living with his toxic, suffocating parent and Mason doesn't want to be a sugar daddy. Watching Terry struggle to find himself is a long lesson in patience, but Mason needs to trust that the end result will be worth it, because finally, he's found a man worth sharing his heart with.

Summer Lessons Winter Ball Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Amy Lane Nick J Russo Dreamspinner Press LLC Books

Amy Lane has created a wonderful Sacramento, California community of what are ordinary, marginally blue collar and techie-types which began with Richie and Skip in "Winter Ball" and continues beautifully with Mason and Terry in this one.

OK, Mason is a mid-30s executive and Terry is a vending machine technician, which are on opposite sides of the spectrum in a way. But the way Lane mixes these guys--including many from the first book--and at the same time gives us two super romances is charming and touching.

Indeed, the romance between Mason and Terry is out front and very hot when they finally get it together (very early in the book) but the one which parallels it, which you will have to read the book to discover, is just as sweet and somewhat more traumatic.

I'm not sure if Lane has more of this series up her sleeves. If so, I will give her a heads up as I did in my review of "Winter Kill:" Get a new cover artist and revise the covers of these two books. The publisher insults us without clearly identifying four of the most incredibly original characters in contemporary M/M romances.

Summer Lessons Winter Ball Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Amy Lane Nick J Russo Dreamspinner Press LLC Books Reviews

I was so excited for Mason and Terry's story and I was not disappointed. This one hit all my buttons and so many feels. I wasn't sure if I should laugh, cry, smack them or wrap them up with hugs and love.
Terry is a frustrating, heartbreaking character who I struggled to like, but wanted him to have his HEA with Mason. They are hot together, but he has so many things to overcome. His mother is horrid. Absolutely the worst character. But they have an amazing support system. Can't wait to read Dane and Carpenters story.
I came to this book with high expectations because I have high expectations for all of Ms. Lane's books. Those expectations were definitely met. This is a perfect sweet story with the right amount of angst to make it not tooth rot inducing. Also, it was wonderful to see previous characters continue their stories with not distracting from the main story in this book.
The things I love about Amy Lane books are how much you want to hug her MCs and how they develop their sense of family, either blood or otherwise. I wanted to hug Mason from the first page. He made me laugh so much. My heart broke for him during the rough patches. I loved his relationship with Dane and I loved how his relationship with the other guys developed. Mason and Dane's parents were awesome! Terry was quirky and sweet. It was great to visit with all the guys from their soccer team. I hope Dane and Carpenter will have their own book!
I'm an admitted Amy Lane fan. I'm not the demographic of most of her characters, being a little older than they usually are. Doesn't diminish my enjoyment. They're well written books of guys trying to figure things out. This book, However, had a protagonist a little older, and a little more seasoned in his career. That hits closer to home. I loved it. The snark was dialed up higher here, the minor characters had strong voices, and as always, Sacramento and environs got its due. For a complete non athlete like me, I was happy to spend time here and can't wait for the next installment.
Terry's and Mason's love story and individual development are in turns delightful, painful, and tender.

We have age and class difference and in really knowing that a better way of being exists for both of them. They are both use to a certain kinds of the relationship. For Terry, it is simply sexual and for Mason, it has more to do with status or assumed behaviors. They both have to learn to be in a truely loving equal partnerships.

They each have dependents of a sort and the book doesn't soft sell what it means to love someone who is bi polar or someone who is toxic.

The circle of friends is wonderful and expands. As always I love the Sacromento area setting. There is a secondary romance that I hope gets its own book.

This is a love story you will get more out of if you read the first book in the series. I hope there is more
I am an Amy Lane fan and I read pretty much everything she writes. She is an author that is known for her quirky characters. It seems that these last couple of lite contemporary series ( Winter Ball and Candy Man) have super quirky characters and dialogue that to be honest sometimes turns me off a little. For example knowing a characters bathroom habits is TMI. In this book I did struggle with those issues a little and it really didn't seem like MC Terry Jefferson was the sharpest tool in the shed. But I fell totally in love with Mason and his bipolar brother Dane and their mother and father. What a lovely family in a (fiction) world that seems hung up on stories about dysfunctional families. So despite my misgivings I loved this tale about Brilliant but socially challenged Mason and his search for love.wonderfully written, heartwarming and I just didn't want it to end. I'm really hoping for an Amy Lane dark romance coming soon?
